Restorative Practice
McFarland Unified School District is committed to the philosophy of implementing Restorative Practices Principles instead of traditional disciplinary actions whenever possible and appropriate. Restorative Practices emphasize:
• Acknowledging wrongdoing that caused harm
• Preparing to make amends to repair harm
• Successfully reintegrating back to the impacted environment
• Restoring and supporting positive relationships
McFarland Unified School District follows the Los Angeles Institute of Restorative Practices (LAIRP) to aid in our discipline process. All Principals, Vice Principals, Learning Directors and Student Affairs Specialists in Intervention (SASI) complete a comprehensive and rigorous training to insure fidelity of practice and consistency throughout our district. Restorative Practice can be used for student misbehaving, bullying, violence, crime, or other matters. The practice can be used in place of direct discipline or could be used in conjunction with discipline as a remediation process. The process of Restorative Practice allows students and adults to repair and improve upon their relationships which is key to a healthy and safe school environment.
