A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 28th to kick off the New Elementary School project. The ceremony was a huge success with a large crowd attending. The speakers for the event included Ty Bryson (Asst Superintendent), Raul Maldonado (Superintendent), Jim Beltran (Board President), Manuel Cantu (Mayor), Dr. Christine Frazier (KCSOS Superintendent of Schools), Chris McLain (Mangini & Associates-Architects), and Joey Mackey (Forcum/Mackey Construction). The MHS Cheer squad and MHS Choir both performed for the crowd. We had representatives from the following groups present: Bond Oversight committee; Educational Specifications committee; Assemblyman Rudy Salas’ office, Congressman David Valadao’s office, CA Department of Ed, City of McFarland, City Council, Police Department, Paramount Farms, and the Lion’s Club. Numerous site administrators and directors, along with teachers, students, and parents attended. Everyone is excited to get this project underway. Congratulations were given to the community for seeing the need and passing the local bond to fund the new elementary school. The school is expected to be completed August 2015.
