McFarland won their first Valley title four years ago when this years graduating class were freshman. And they have wanted another one ever since. They put in a very strong season. McFarland the top ranked seed in their division hosted the number two seed Orange Cove. McFarland took the lead in the third inning scoring two runs. But Orange Cove fought back in the sixth scoring their first run. McFarland matched the run in the bottom of the sixth giving them a 3-1 lead heading into the final inning. But Orange Cove kept fighting. They scored again in the seventh to make it a one run game. With runners on second and third and two outs the ball was put into play right in front of the catcher as the runner barreled down the line towards home. Pitcher Marina Felipe calmly fielded the ball throwing it to the catcher who tagged the runner for the third and final out.
After that it was pandemonium as the players and coaches rushed Felipe. McFarland played an incredible game with nearly every player in their lineup earning a base hit. Isabel Gonzales and Jasmine Medina each managed two hits in the game.
But the star of the game was Senior Marina Felipe. She pitched seven innings striking out seven and allowing only two earned runs. She helped out her own cause with two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored.
