Re: Carry Concealed Weapons (CCW) Licenses

Dear Parents:

    SB 707 was signed into law by the Governor on October 10, 2015. Effective January 1, 2016, the Senate Bill revises Penal Code sections 626.9(c)(5) and 626.9(1) of the Gun Free School Zone Act. As newly revised, the legislation restricts CCW license holders from bringing a concealed firearm on to school grounds.
     It is unlawful for a CCW license holder to bring a concealed firearm on to school grounds. If you have a CCW license and carry a concealed firearm, please do not do so on school grounds.
     The legislation also provides an exception. If you possess a CCW license and feel that your individual circumstances necessitate carrying a concealed weapon while on school grounds, please contact the school district superintendent to discuss the matter. The school district superintendent may grant permission, in writing, which allows a CCW license holder to lawfully carry a concealed weapon while on school grounds.
