AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program designed to help under-represented students enroll in a four-year college and complete a college degree.

WHAT IS "AVID"?
- A program for students;
- That prepares students to enter and succeed in college;
- Where students engage in vigorous pursuit of knowledge;
- Where students commit themselves to prepare for college;
- That teaches students how to study;
- That teaches students how to read for content;
- That teaches students how to take Cornell Notes;
- That teaches students time management;
- Where students participate in collaborative study groups;
- Which empowers ordinary students to achieve the extraordinary.
What is required of the AVID student? AVID students are taught to use Cornell Notes and are required to take one page of notes in each academic class per day.
WHAT "AVID" IS NOT:
- A remedial program;
- A before or after school program;
- Offered without elective credit;
- Without purpose or structure;
- A schedule of easy courses;
- A homogeneous group of students;
- Without commitment from student/parent;
- A program for students with severe school problems: truancy, discipline, and learning problems;
- For passive learners;
- Answer giving;
- A program for everyone
